National Honors Society (NHS)
The BCHS NHS promotes scholarship, leadership, service and character in our school via projects that in the past have included: providing a mental health presentation, working with 9th grade advisories on a fun fall game, volunteering time to fight hunger by making sandwiches to donate to a homeless shelter. The club officers drive the agendas for the bimonthly meetings. We also have fun with celebrations such as Christmas parties and Farewell Ice Cream socials for our seniors.Invited students fill out a set of questions describing their experiences with leadership, character and service. The faculty council, which does not include the sponsor, chooses candidates who show evidence of all four pillars of the NHS: scholarship, leadership, character and service. These candidates are then officially inducted into the NHS.Grades: Students at BCHS are invited to join after their freshman year if their GPA is 3.25 or greater. 10-12 gradersWhen: 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, after schoolGPA Requirement: 3.25 GPAContact: Mrs. Michelle Groven Nelson (michelle.groven-nels@detroitk12.org)Any class officers?
