Ms. Cha-Rhonda Edgerson

Cha-Rhonda Edgerson is a proud graduate of Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School. Cha-Rhonda earned her Bachelor's Degree from Wayne State University in Elementary Education. She continued her education at the University of Detroit Mercy where she obtained her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and her Educational Specialist Degree at Oakland University. While receiving her formal training at the Universities, Cha-Rhonda acquired knowledge through her courses in school improvement systems, as well as experience in summative, formative and interim assessments and student data analysis.

Cha-Rhonda was a classroom room teacher at the elementary, middle and high school level for 7 years. She has served as a building administrator for the last 15 years in a variety of roles. She is an instructional leader. She has been a supportive and contributing participant in all strategic meetings that aim at leveling the educational playing field.

Mr. Barry Cannon

Barry Cannon is the Assistant Principal and Athletic Coordinator for King High School. Mr. Cannon holds a Bachelor's degree from Olivet College in Sociology/Physical Education, a Master's of Arts in Teaching and Ed Specialists (Administration) from Wayne State University. Before joining DPS/DPSCD, Mr. Cannon worked as a certified Social Worker with Boysville of Michigan and Todd Phillips Children's Home. He has also been a basketball coach and athletic coordinator.

Mr. Dennis Veal

 

Dennis Veal II, a native East Side Detroiter, is currently serving the community as the Assistant Principal at Martin Luther King High School. He is a proud husband and a father of two. As a Cass Tech 2003 graduate, Veal matriculated through higher Education, receiving a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University and later a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix. From humble beginnings, Veal has served in almost every capacity in Education on all levels; K-12, from Teachers aide, Substitute Teacher, basketball coach, Mentor, Teacher and now, finally, as an administrator. As a History Teacher, Veal was awarded the Teacher of the Year Honor at Southeastern High School in 2017-18 and received the Detroit Pistons Game Changer award for community impact and outstanding leadership the following school year. Veal is passionate about education and closing the communication gap between generations. Mr. Veal is a proponent of the Afrocentric centered curriculum. He believes that knowledge of self and the true placement of the success of African people in World History leads to increased academic achievement.
