Principal Damian H. Perry is a young but seasoned Principal for over 21 years. He has had the pleasure of leading schools in Wayne and Oakland County in the Metro Detroit communities of Detroit, Pontiac, and Southfield. Within the DPSCD portfolio of schools, Principal Perry has led Southeastern High School, Mumford and Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School. 

 

Principal Perry is a proud product of Detroit Public Schools, starting at Chrysler Elementary and ending his DPS career at Detroit Martin Luther King Jr.  Senior High School, where he was a member of the storied Detroit Martin Luther King Football team affectionally known as "The Hit Squad". Principal Perry's formal education continued at Alabama A&M University (B.A.) where he is a 3rd generation graduate, Marygrove College (M.A., M. Ed.), Oakland University Ed. Specialist and currently perusing his and Ed.D. at Oakland University. Principal Perry has also completed doctoral studies at Ashland Theological Seminary.

 

Principal Perry has a DEEP love for all things Detroit, and a passion for our youth. He truly believes in the power of education and the doors it has the potential to open. 

 

Some of Principal Perry’s notable accomplishments in school leadership include:

 

Earning Department of Education Adequate Yearly Progress two years in a row in ELA and Math.

Creation of the "Bulldog Lounge": a multipurpose room that allowed students who earned PBIS points to converse, play games, listen to music, work on assignments, or just converse with other peers.

The vision, fundraising, and building of the Willie Horton Memorial Library. In partnership with the Detroit Tigers Foundation, Microsoft, and the parents, partners, and friends of the school, over $150,000.00 was raised for the creation of the WIllie Horton Library and Media Center. This room featured SMART Board Technology, tablets and laptops, new books, and authentic Detroit Tiger Memorabilia.

The founding Principal of Southeastern Examination High School. In partnership with faculty, staff, students, alumni, former principals, and former superintendents. Researched, developed, and implemented the new examination testing protocols, student selection and enrollment, curriculum, cultural expectations, and marketing plan. The results of which gleaned a year's worth of academic growth in Math and ELA.
