Mr. Kurtis Brown
My name is Kurtis Brown.
Welcome to Dossin Elementary/Middle school. It is my great pleasure to serve as the principal of this family oriented school. This is my 8th year as principal of Dossin after serving two years as the assistant. Prior to coming to Dossin, I taught 20 years within DPS district with 18 of those year at Mann Learning Community.
My family includes my wife Lori, two daughters Kendall and Jordan. My daughter Kendall is an U of M graduate c/o 2023 and Jordan is a senior at the School at Marygrove c/o 2024. I am also a proud DPS graduate of Cooley H.S. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, playing golf, watching sports and running. As an educator, I get the honor of assisting young people in pursuing their purpose in life.
At Dossin we aspire to get students to understand the purpose of education, the first thing you see when you walk into the build is a quote by Dr. King, which states “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically,” “Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education. We attempt to meet that function by exposing our students to career possibilities in STEM through partnerships with the University of Michigan Engineering College and General Electric. In addition, we offer a wide range of opportunities and extracurricular activities: including sports, chess, cheerleading, scouting, character building and conflict resolution that help build resiliency, confidence, and problem solving. Our Career Spotlight highlights successful young professionals and our MLK “A Day on, Not A Day Off” provides parents with financial and job training workshops. The real strength of our school, however, is our family environment. Through nurturing relationships, we provide the caring support, strength, guidance and mentoring that our students need to not only succeed but to flourish.
I would like to thank you for this opportunity to provide your child with an excellent educational experience.
Educationally,
Kurtis Brown
