Mr. Kurtis Brown
Welcome to Dossin Elementary/Middle School!
It is Mr. Brown's great pleasure to serve as the principal of this family oriented school. This is Mr. Brown's fifth year as principal of Dossin after serving two years in the Assistant Principal's role. Prior to coming to Dossin, he has taught for 20 years within the DPSCD district with 18 of those years at Mann Learning Community.
Mr. Brown's family includes his wife Lori, and his two daughters Kendall and Jordan. Kendall is entering her senior year and Jordan is now a 7th grader. Mr. Brown is also a proud DPS graduate of Cooley H.S. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, watching sports and running. His passion though is assisting young people in pursuing their purpose in life.
At Dossin, staff members are inspired by revolutionaries who's murals frame the halls like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., President Barack Obama, and Rosa Parks. Within the school, quotes like “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically” and “Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education" make the Dossin staff's efforts clear. Out of the school, Dossin staff expose students to career possibilities in STEM through partnerships with the University of Michigan Engineering College and General Electric. In addition, they offer a wide range of opportunities and extracurricular activities: including sports, chess, cheerleading scouting, character building and conflict resolution that help build resiliency, confidence, and problem solving. Each week, Dossin students experience the Career Spotlight. This program brings students face to face with successful young professionals. Parents also have the opportunity to participate in the MLK “A Day On, Not A Day Off” program that provides parents with financial and job training workshops. As one can see, the real strength of the Dossin school is the family environment. Through nurturing relationships, the Dossin school staff provides caring support, strength, guidance and mentoring that students, parents, and the community need to not only succeed but to flourish.
Mr. Brown thanks you for the opportunity to provide your child with an excellent educational experience!
Feel free to contact Mr. Brown if you would like to be a part of the great things happening at Dossin Elmentary/Middle School!
