Are students eligible for transportation during Summer School?
Yes. K-8 will be assigned corner stops. High School students will be picked up from their home school sites and taken to the summer learning host site. High School public pass passes will also be available. ESE center-based students will also receive transportation. For questions regarding transportation and bus routes, please call 313-945-8600.
K-8 Transportation will be provided for all eligible students to a host site within proximity of their home school. Students will be picked up at their normal bus stop, transported to their home school, and then routed to their summer school site.
Please be advised that transportation will be provided only for students who plan to attend both the academic program, which starts at 8:30 a.m., and the enrichment session, which ends at 3:30 p.m. Parents who elect for their children to participate in the Extended Enrichment hour (3:30 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.) will be responsible for securing pick-up arrangements.
Note: If the student attends an application school without transportation, they will not receive transportation for summer school.
HS Transportation will be provided for AM + HS Enrichment (Athletic Camp) students who indicate the need on the application. Bus stop sites will be determined by this data. Students who participate in PM HS programming are responsible for their own transportation. Students who participate in HS Enrichment (Athletic Camps) will be responsible for transportation home at 6:00 p.m.

Does my child have to attend each week of enrichment activities?
Yes. We ask if you sign up for enrichment that you attend daily for the full 16-day enrichment period.

How do I enroll my child for Summer Learning?
There are two Summer Learning Enrollment Form links for students that are currently enrolled in DPSCD and one for new students who are enrolling for the 2022-2023 school year:

How do I know my child is registered for the correct required recovery courses?
School Counselors will verify and confirm based on students’ transcripts.

How do I select a Summer Learning Site for a child with an IEP?
Students with IEPs will attend the site assigned to their current school of enrollment.

How many courses can my students enroll in for recovery?
- Students in Grades 6-8 can recover a maximum of two courses
- Students in Grades 9-12 can recover up to 5 courses during the Summer Program if they attend both sessions

How will students be graded in Summer Learning?
K-8 Students attending for summer enrichment will not receive a traditional grade, but parents will receive feedback from their child’s teachers. Students attending for recovery will receive a letter grade. High School students taking acceleration courses will receive a letter grade for their courses.

How will Summer Learning Experiences be offered?
Summer Learning academics will be offered face-to-face. All district Enrichment Activities at DPSCD sites will be offered face to face only.
Virtual summer programming is only available at the DPSCD Virtual School. All other summer school sites are in-person learning. At this time only current Virtual School students are eligible to attend summer school at the Virtual School.

If my child registered for Summer Learning, how do I know where they will need to go the first day of Summer Learning?
Students will receive an assignment letter the week of July 5th via their school email. If you do not receive a letter, please contact the HELP DESK (313-240-4377) and they will provide you with the school site location.

What are the attendance expectations for students throughout Learning?
The expectation is that students will be in attendance for the hours provided for Course Recovery during summer school at their school site. 6th-12th students are expected to log on and attend in person daily for academic advisement. If students are absent for more than 3 days of summer school, they will be withdrawn.

What are the hours and options for Summer Learning?
K-8 ONLY
K-8 Academics only (8:30AM-12:30PM) *Breakfast and Lunch provided.: Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will have the opportunity to participate in daily academic support activities. Only Virtual School learners will have virtual learning for academics. Transportation will be provided to the summer site for K-8 students. Families are responsible for picking up child(ren) at the conclusion of the Academic session at 12:30 PM.
K-8 Academics and Enrichment I (8:30AM-3:30PM) *Breakfast and Lunch provided: Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will have the opportunity to participate in daily academic support activities during the morning. During the afternoon, students will engage in fun and inspiring learning activities with community-based organizations at DPSCD summer sites. Transportation will be provided to and from the site for the students.
K-8 Academics, Enrichment I and Extended Enrichment (8:30AM-5:00PM) *Breakfast and Lunch provided: Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will have the opportunity to participate in daily academic support activities during the morning. During the afternoon, students will engage in fun and inspiring learning activities with community-based organizations at DPSCD summer sites. Transportation will be provided to the summer site. Families are responsible for picking up child(ren) at the conclusion of the Extended Enrichment session at 5:00 PM.
K-8 Enrichment I and Extended Enrichment only (1:00 PM-5:00PM) **Transportation will not be provided.
High School Options
Please note: New high school students (i.e. enrolling in the District as a new student for the fall 2022-23 school year) will only have the option of participating in Enrichment programming for Summer Learning Experiences.
High School Academics Session 1 (9:30AM-1:30PM) *Breakfast and Lunch provided: High school students will have the opportunity to participate in daily course recovery or course acceleration activities. Transportation will be provided to and from the summer site for high school students attending the Academic 1 session only.
High School Academic Session 2 (2:00PM-4:25PM) *Lunch provided: High school students will have the opportunity to participate in daily course recovery or course acceleration activities. Families are responsible for dropping off and picking up child(ren).
High School Academic Sessions 1& 2 (9:30AM-4:25PM) *Breakfast and Lunch provided: High school students will have the opportunity to participate in a full day of daily course recovery or course acceleration activities. Transportation will be provided to the school site from the student’s home school. Families are responsible for picking up child(ren).
High School Academic Session 1 & Enrichment (9:30AM-6:00PM) *Breakfast and Lunch provided: High school students will have the opportunity to participate in daily course recovery/course acceleration and enrichment activities. Transportation will be provided to the school site from the student(s) home school. Families are responsible for picking up child(ren).
High School Enrichment (2:00PM-6:00PM): High school students will have the opportunity to participate in daily enrichment. Transportation will be provided to the site. Families are responsible for picking up child(ren).

What is my child's login information? (Current Students)
All DPSCD students have a unique username and password to access their DPSCD email.
- The username is the child’s email address, which consists of their student ID number (555555@thedps.org)
- The password consists of a combination of the student’s name, birthday, and gender.
Example: If Thomas Smith is a DPSCD student with a student ID of 018765 and his birthday is March 25, 2005, the username would be 018765@thedps.org and the password would be Ts030501.
If current students have trouble logging in to the enrollment form, please call your school’s front office for support. If you need additional support, please call (313)240-4377, 7:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday.

What is the discipline expectation for students during Summer Learning?
Disciplinary Reports are required for summer learning. The same offense and violation codes should be used for summer school, as are used during the regular school year. Students who display egregious behavior during Summer School will be withdrawn.

What kind of precautions will be taken due to COVID-19?
School sites will follow all COVID-19 Safety Protocols. All adults participating in Summer Learning Experiences must submit a negative COVID test. There will be daily COVID self-assessments for symptoms and forehead temperature checks. Staff and students will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Classrooms and buses will be disinfected daily.

What Summer Learning programs are being offered?
Detroit Public Schools Community District will be offering Face-to-Face and Virtual Summer Learning (for Virtual School students only). We will also provide an opportunity for students to engage in face-to-enrichment activities with community partners that will increase their academic success and allow them to explore skills and interests, including STEM activities, performing arts, visual arts, academic enrichment, physical fitness, and more.
Course & Grade Recovery
Students in K-12th grade will make up a course(s) needed for promotion or graduation.
K-8th grade students may take up to two courses.
High School level recovery courses will be offered at specific school sites. Students may take up to five courses.
*To learn more about Credit Recovery requirements, speak with your child’s school counselor.
Academic Enrichment
Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade will have the opportunity to participate in daily academic support activities.
High School Acceleration
Students in 9th through 11th grade may take a virtual course(s) required for graduation.

Dual Enrollment (High School Only)
High School students grades 9-11th, will have the option to enroll in dual enrollment courses facilitated by Wayne County Community College (WCCC). Applications and support for completion are available through High School Dual Enrollment Coordinators now until May 27th.
- Summer DE Courses do not require any prerequisites.
- Courses count toward a general study associates degree pathway at WCCC
- Students may not retake a course they have previously taken and have been awarded credit.
- Registration opened on March 31, 2022.
- Registration will close on Friday, May 27, 2022
- DPSCD Dual Enrollment Classes Begin (with some exceptions) – Wednesday, July 6, 2022
- DPSCD Dual Enrollment Classes End (with some exceptions) – September 2, 2022
Kindergarten Bootcamp
Kindergarten students will be provided support in kindergarten readiness skills and enrichment in a half-day model. Students are to attend with a trusted adult.

When is Summer Learning?
Summer School starts Monday, July 11th, and ends Thursday, August 4th. There will not be summer learning activities on Fridays.

When is the last day to enroll students for Summer Learning for academic promotion purposes?
Students are encouraged to submit their enrollment forms as soon as the application opens but may enroll through June 24, 2022. Limited seats are available.
