Dr. Janeene Montgomery

Dr. Janeene Montgomery has been serving Detroit families for the past 25 years and has spent her entire career with Detroit Public Schools now Detroit Public Schools Community District.  She is a native of Louisville, Kentucky. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Detroit and began her teaching career at John C. Lodge  Elementary on Detroit’s west side then went on to work at Langston Hughes Academy of Performing Arts, and Noble Elementary-Middle school.  She is a former lead teacher, literacy coach, Success for All facilitator, and Master Teacher.  She has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout her career. She is the recipient of the Outstanding American Teacher Award, Teacher of the Year, and the Distinguished Teaching Award.  

 

She is excited about being a part of the new DPSCD Virtual School family and intends to help the Virtual school become a premier institution of learning. Dr. Montgomery has conducted extensive research in the area of educational technology with a concentration in urban education. She is a graduate of Kentucky State University having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education,  She received her administration certification from Wayne State University, and completed her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership specializing in Educational Technology from The University of Phoenix,  Dr. Montgomery is a "servant leader" and has a heart for children. Her primary focus is to provide exemplary leadership, help implement consistent school-wide instructional practices that are clear, results-oriented, and research-based.  She will continually seek out opportunities for ongoing learning while helping to create an organizational climate that fosters student and teacher growth. She is married and the mother of two sons.
