Kimberly Rogers
Principal Rogers started her teaching career at Barbour Middle School in 1998, as a second career. Her love for children and learning transcended into a passion for educating youth. A proud graduate of Cass Technical High School, Rogers was enamored by the opportunity to return to DPS and begin her career in education. In 2000, Rogers began teaching at Martin Luther King, Jr. Sr. High School. Upon completing her counseling degree, she eventually moved into the Guidance and Counseling Department. Her administrative career with DPS started in 2010 with a promotion to Assistant Principal. Since that time, she has been an Academic Engagement Administrator, Summer Bridge and Summer School Program Director, Extended Day Program Director, Dean of Culture, and Assistant Principal In-Charge.
As a counselor, Mrs. Rogers promoted student well-being and self-efficacy through individual and group counseling sessions and provided career counseling. She applied clinical counseling principles, methods, and procedures for the purpose of achieving social, personal, career and emotional development in students. While at King High School, Mrs. Rogers supported students beyond the classroom. Rogers has served as a DECA Judge, BPA Judge, Pomerettes Coach, Assistant Auxiliary Director for the band, Step Team Coach, Senior Class Sponsor, K-Settes Coach, Conflict Resolution Mediator, Female Mentor, Prom and Graduation Coordinator.
Principal Rogers is dedicated to being a servant leader. She has served in numerous capacities during her tenure with DPSCD including the following: PTSA - Workshop Director, Department of Federal and State Programs – Title I Coordinator – School Level (Target Assist), School Improvement Committee Chair, School Improvement Grant (SIG) – Coordinator, Data Specialist, Dual /Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator, Testing Coordinator – AP Coordinator, School Liaison to External Partners, Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) Facilitator, Professional Development Coordinator, and NCAA Eligibility Coordinator. Her most notable accomplishment is writing and securing over 9 million dollars in School Improvement Grant (SIG) funds to increase opportunities and enhance outcomes for students.
Mrs. Rogers' philanthropic involvements includes sitting on The Board of Directors for the following nonprofits which are dedicated to improving the lives of the youth in the Metro Detroit area: The Torch of Wisdom Foundation, Inc. and Futures of Detroit. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
