Robotics - With more and more shools adopting VEX and First Robotics as a platform to enrich and enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses, ther is a need for an intergrated program which allows teachers to seamlessly add VEX and first Robotics into there classrooms. These offerings were developed by forward-thinking organizations with years of experience creating the tools to keep STEM education exciting and inspiring.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
French 1 and French 2 are introductory courses designed to expose students to the language and cultures of the French-speaking world. Students will develop basic proficiency in the four modalities of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will learn to communicate minimally on very familiar topics by using simple, highly contextualized words, sentences and questions related to themselves, home, family, friends, neighborhood, school, community, professions and environment that have been practiced and memorized. The importance of communication and cultural awareness is stressed through a wide variety of activities (group/pair/individual work, video, audio recordings, computer assignments, etc.)
EXPECTED COMPETENCIES
At the completion of French 1 and French 2 (two years), you are expected to be at Novice High Level:
- Communicate in French orally and in writing about everyday situations related to family, school, food, time, weather, etc;
- demonstrate comprehension of both written and spoken language about everyday situations such as school, food, time, weather, family, etc;
- Show some knowledge of the francophone world and of French geography, history, and daily life;
- Connect French studies with other subjects studied at DCP@Northwestern and found in the world around you;
- Illustrate similarities and differences between French and American cultures.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to express greetings, state likes and dislikes, talk about their school schedules, tell time, purchase clothes and school supplies, and talk about weather and activities, order food at a café, invite a friend to go out and arrange to meet, describe their families, purchase groceries, and talk about present, past and future events
JROTC - The U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (JROTC) is one the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth in the world. The National Defense Act of 1916 established organized JROTC programs at public and private educational institutions. In 1964, Congress expanded the program to all military services and change from active duty to shared support from the services and school. As congressionally mandated by the Title 10 United States Code, Section 2031, each military service must have a JROTC program to "instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility and sense of accomplishment." JROTC mission, "To motivate Young People to be Better Citizens", is the guide post for the programs success.
The DCP @ Northwestern Band Program has a rich history of music education and performance, many well-known Motown musicians have graduated from here. Alex Valigura is beginning his third year leading the program. Mr. Valigura graduated from MSU with a bachelors in Music Education and a minor in Jazz Studies. This program focuses on the history of American music, Detroit-based music and musicians, and the teamwork skills required to successfully run a band. This program offers many different courses including:Jazz Band - The Jazz band focuses on traditional instruments is our school's top ensemble. It is a performance group that will travel and compete in various Jazz festivals.Concert Band - The Concert band focuses on traditional classical repertoire, concert band pieces, and marches.R&B Band - In the R&B band you will learn about pop music, songwriting, and digital production. This class uses more modern instruments like guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals.Drumline - The drumline is the feature of our marching band.
