• Welcome Letter from Principal

Dear Thurgood Marshall Elementary Middle School Families,

Welcome to the 2021 - 2022 school year!  I am thrilled to welcome you back to school. It is truly an honor for me to move from Assistant Principal at Nolan Elementary Middle to Principal of Thurgood Marshall Elementary Middle School. I am privileged to work with an outstanding staff to make it a smooth transition for our students during this uncertain time. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Louis Carter, our returning Assistant Principal and congratulations to Mr. Ramond Pilgrim on his promotion to Assistant Principal at Pasteur. As we await our new Dean, we are excited to work closely with you to ensure the success and well-being of all of our students.

We have been working hard all summer to plan for a safe opening of school and to implement best practices to mitigate the risks associated with Covid-19. Our classrooms have been modified to increase social distancing, signage has been installed throughout the building to guide students, and our schedule has been modified to allow for more time for mask breaks, hand washing, and opportunities to access outdoor learning spaces. A stronger emphasis will be placed on social emotional learning as we implement the Second Step program in all of our K-5 classrooms.

Thurgood Marshall is such a special place to learn and grow. We have high expectations for each and every student.  Our students are kind, compassionate, and inquisitive.  Together with our dedicated staff, we strive to make connections with students to help them feel valued, accepted and safe. At Thurgood the future we want is for ALL students to have the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to thrive in our city, our nation and our world. We will continue to guide our mission to educate and empower every. Our goal is to encourage active student engagement to foster a lifetime love for learning.

Partnering with families will be crucial this year as we face many obstacles due to the global pandemic.  We appreciate your support as you work with students at home to practice safety protocols such as wearing a mask and washing hands. We encourage families to stay connected and informed by following our district website for important updates.
