Welcome Back Letter from Mr. Derrick Graves, Principal
Greetings TPA Parents/Guardians,
Welcome back to the 2021-22 school year! I am excited to welcome everyone back to a new school year of in-person teaching and learning.
The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) has worked hard all summer to prepare for a safe return of students and staff. Some of the safety measures the district has taken include:
- Mandatory COVID-19 testing for employees
- Training on healthy hygiene practices for students and staff
- Daily temperature and self-symptom checks for employees and students
- Required use of masks
- Nursing services in every school
- Hand sanitizer in each classroom
Last year showed us that our students’ emotional health is vital to their well-being and academic success. We will continue focus on the mental health of students as school resumes. Several new mental health initiatives have been adopted including a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program designed largely for students with exceptionalities.
Student attendance will be especially important this school year. As we work to address the loss of learning that occurred during the pandemic, it is important that all students are in school every day. Please encourage your student to attend school daily.
It remains my honor and privilege to serve as principal of Turning Point Academy. I look forward to seeing your student return to school on Tuesday, September 7th
This will be a great year!
Derrick D. Graves
