Hello, John R. King Family!

My name is Morenike Hood, and I am absolutely thrilled to serve as the Assistant Principal of John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy this year! Together, we are embarking on an exciting journey into a new school year, and I couldn’t be more excited to partner with our incredible community of students, parents, and educators.

I’m a proud Detroiter with strong southern roots. My educational journey led me to Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree as a Reading Specialist in 2010. Go Hornets! 🐝

For 21 years, I have been devoted to empowering students and unlocking their potential. Over the years, I’ve served in many fulfilling roles, including Classroom Teacher, Reading Specialist, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal. Each step of my journey has deepened my passion for education and my commitment to making a lasting impact on young minds in Detroit.

This year, my goal is to build meaningful connections with our parents, teachers, and students as we work together to provide every scholar with a “Head of the Class” education. Let’s make this year one to remember—full of growth, success, and creativity!
