ESE Townhall to Support Families
The Community is invited to learn more about the services and programming provided by the District’s Office of Exceptional Student Education during an ESE Townhall on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School, 3200 E. Lafayette, Detroit, 48207. Hosted by Board of Education Vice-President Dr. Deborah Hunter-Harvill along DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti and other DPSCD administrators, the evening will include a reception for parents from 6 p.m.-6:30 p.m. where the first 20 grocery store gift cards will be given away by the first 20 participants. The Office of Exceptional Student Education (ESE) includes a full range of exceptionalities servicing approximately 8,000 students with an active Individualized Education Plan (IEP) as well as Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). Detroit Public Schools Community District offers one of the most robust continuums of specialized programs and services found in the state of Michigan. The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program is a continuum of exceptionality that is often overlooked. While the state of Michigan does not currently have legislation directly supporting GATE, Detroit Public Schools Community District has committed to supporting all areas of exceptional needs for our students with Dr. Vitti and our School Board unanimously approving the ESE GATE plan.
