Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!

DPSCD 17 Expands Pre-K Programming, 17 Classes Added for SY 2022-23 The District has expanded its Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) that serves students who are 4 years old by adding 1,200 Pre-K seats over the next five years which includes 17 new classrooms for this school year. The Pre-K expansion is part of the district’s 20-year Facility Master Plan (FMP) that invests more than $700M in federal funding to improve and upgrade DPSCD’s facilities. There is still time to apply.  

School Spotlight: Nestled in northwest Detroit, Pasteur Elementary School provides a caring, family atmosphere for Pre-K through 6th grade students with athletic programs, mentoring for girls and much more. Let’s Read Volunteer Sign Ups Start This Week!  Volunteer training sessions have started, the next sessions are Tuesday, September 13, 2022, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and again Thursday, September 15, 2022,  5 p.m.-6 p.m. at the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) office located at 16164 Asbury Park in Detroit. Parent Academy This Week: Learn how to navigate the new Student Hub on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, during a Parent Academy workshop from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. During this course, you’ll learn basic tools for accessing grades, resources, and tech support. DPSCD Launching High School Outdoor Adventure Clubs for SY 22-23: Do you love the outdoors and the opportunity to participate in activities such as rock climbing, kayaking or learning more about environmental stewardship? If so, plan to attend the Outdoor Adventure Club Back to School Event on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the DEN at Palmer Park at 6:30 p.m. Click the link to RSVP and get more information. 

REMINDERS:  

Virtual School Transfer Deadline is Friday, September 16, 2022: Some students succeed by learning virtually. Current DPSCD students can request a transfer into the District’s Virtual School by this Friday, September 16. To be eligible, students at the Virtual School cannot be chronically absent and cannot have a failing grade in a core academic class. Parents must come to the DPSCD Virtual School (14771 Mansfield) to complete an over-the counter enrollment as you would for any other school. 

Planning to attend the King-Cass Tech football showdown on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Cass Tech starting at 7 p.m., remember that all DPSCD athletic tickets are digital. Click the link for more information on DPSCD’s digital athletic ticketing system and to purchase tickets, they sell out fast.
