Middle Schoolers Prepare 5th Graders for Monday Townhall Meetings

The 7th graders paved the way, and the 6th graders stepped up to take charge. Now, the 6th graders are training the 5th graders to make the daily morning announcements for Barton students and staff. It’s been a rewarding experience watching the middle schoolers guide the 5th graders on the proper order and presentation of the announcements, while teaching them how to speak clearly and listen attentively when updating everyone on daily and weekly events. During the morning announcements, students share the Barton Elementary Middle School pledge, a student-chosen word of the day, the monthly character trait, the daily lunch menu, the weather forecast, birthdays, a student-chosen trivia question, trivia winners, and any other important news. The 5th graders have demonstrated their readiness to lead, preparing them to mentor the 4th graders who will begin making announcements next month.
