We draw upon the expertise of our educators and work together to create models of outstanding achievement in every classroom. Through implementing high-quality instructional materials and transforming the academic culture in our schools, we challenge and inspire our students to thrive in the world. With a wide variety of academics and enrichment opportunities aligned with state standards, we support students in unlocking their potential as they extend their skills and talents beyond the classroom. Our core curriculum includes:
- English Language Arts - We are committed to nurturing and developing a strong literacy foundation for all students in the early school years by implementing literacy instructional frameworks that prepare students to become independent readers and writers.
- Math - The mathematics curriculum seeks to ensure mathematical competence and confidence in students in mathematics-rich classroom environments.
- Science - Classroom experiences in science are connected to real-world phenomena and provide opportunities to engage in science and engineering practices through exposure to STEM-related career pathways.
- Social Studies - Students gain the content knowledge, intellectual skills, and core democratic values necessary for fulling their civic duties in a participatory democracy and effectively engaging in our global society.

Our new program challenges students to think critically and take active roles in their classrooms and communities. This results in higher achievement and greater engagement in school. Our schools give students the academic and character-building skills they need to reach their potential as learners and leaders. According to the data EL Education schools are outperforming state and district averages on standardized tests and closing critical achievement gaps. In many US cities, EL Educational program is among the highest-performing public schools. Here at Charles H. Wright, we are excited to implement this new program this year.
Mathematics
Eureka Math is a complete, PreK–12 curriculum and professional development platform. It follows the focus and coherence of the Common Core State Standards and carefully sequences the progression of mathematical ideals into expertly crafted instructional modules. This curriculum is distinguished not only by its adherence to the CCSS. It is also based on a theory of teaching math that is proven to work. That theory posits that mathematical knowledge is conveyed most effectively when it is taught in a sequence that follows the “story” of mathematics itself. This is why we call the elementary portion of Eureka Math "A Story of Units." The sequencing has been joined with methods of instruction that have been proven to work, in this nation and abroad. These methods drive student understanding beyond process, to deep mastery of mathematical concepts. The goal of Eureka Math is to produce students who are not merely literate, but fluent, in mathematics. Your student has an exciting year of discovering the story of mathematics ahead!
Science Education/Curriculum
Michigan has adopted the new Michigan Science Standards which are based on the Next Generation Science Standards. In transitioning to the new standards, the Office of Science is piloting new NGSS aligned curriculum materials and offering professional development for teachers. Teachers at Charles Wright are creating 3-Dimensional learning environments in their classrooms by incorporating Disciplinary Core Ideas, Science and Engineering Practices, and Crosscutting Concepts in each lesson.
