Ms. Tamara Mitchell

Ms. Tamara Mitchell is a Detroit resident who began her career over 16 years ago. Ms. Mitchell attended Alabama State University and received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2006 and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction in 2018.

After completing her academic studies in Montgomery, Ala., Ms. Mitchell went on to teach in her home state of Michigan. Ms. Mitchell held various positions, which included teaching grades Kindergarten through 8th grade (Mathematics), Lead Grade Level Teacher, Math Master Teacher, as well as consulting on the school leadership team. This educational experience has contributed to her leadership skills.

Ms. Mitchell believes the key to a successful educational environment for teachers and students is a collaborative team. She also believes that true learning and teaching happens when we build genuine relationships with staff, students, as well as teachers. Ms. Mitchell is excited to be part of the learning and development of Ronald Brown Academy!

Ms. May

Ms. May, and is honored to serve as one of the new Assistant Principals at Ronald Brown Academy! She was born and raised in Detroit, MI, and is a proud graduate of Renaissance High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics, as well as a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, both from Wayne State University.
As a lifelong Detroiter, she deeply believes in the incredible potential that lives, breathes, and thrives within our community. She is committed to helping our students discover the best within themselves, while also introducing them to the beauty of our city and exposing them to the many possibilities the world has to offer.
She brings with her 10 years of experience in DPSCD where she has grown in many roles, including elementary teacher, middle school teacher, Teacher Leader, Training & Support Coordinator, and Curriculum Leader, leading to my inspired position as Assistant Principal.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing board games.
