Mrs. Latisha Smith

Mrs. Latisha Smith is a Detroit native. Mrs. Smith began her academic career in the Detroit Public School system over 30 years ago. Graduating from Redford High School. Mrs. Latisha went on to attend the University of Michigan to further her education. Mrs. Smith received an Associates in Science in 2005, a bachelor’s degree in education in 2008, and a Masters in Educational Administration in 2010.

After completing her academic studies in 2008, Mrs. Latisha went on to teach at University Preparatory Academy for 11 years, where she thrived. During that span of time, Mrs. Latisha served in various roles, such as head of the school improvement team, lead teacher, and instructional lead. She spent several years passionately teaching 5th grade ELA, which she feels is her specialty. She also has experience teaching 2nd-8th grades. Over the last 3 years, Mrs. Smith has served as the Assistant Principal at Bunche Preparatory Academy. This experience has informed her overall leadership skills.

Mrs. Latisha views a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and students. She believes partnerships with parents and the community are essential to enriching the experience in any school-aged academic environment. She also believes that true learning can take place when strong relationships are built with the students and families that we serve each day! Mrs. Latisha is excited about being a part of enhancing the learning environment already in place at Maybury Elementary School.
