Ms. Lynnette Martin

Greetings,

My name is Lynnette Martin and I have the pleasure of serving as the Assistant Principal at Bates Academy. I attended Detroit Public Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating from Mumford High School. Continuing my journey in post-secondary education, I attended Oakland University and Wayne State University, where I graduated and received a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Degree, a Master of Arts in Teaching, and an Educational Specialist Degree in General Administration & Supervision; Elementary and Secondary. At the beginning of my teaching career, I was assigned to a unique educational setting. I became determined and committed to teaching at-risk students for 15 years, which gave me my foundation and molded me into the teacher I was to become for the remainder of my years with DPSCD. Later in my career, I realized this was the best training and experience I could have asked for. My next assignments consisted of teaching 4th-8th grade students in general educational classrooms, which later prepared me to become an ELA Instructional Coach in a middle school setting. Throughout my years, I served on numerous school committees and planning teams, mentored girl groups, participated in after-school tutoring, and served with school administration and community partnership planning teams. After 31 years of service as a certified teacher and Instructional Specialist in the Detroit Public Schools Community District, I decided to retire. After retirement, I continued to serve in the educational field, working in New York as a Professional Development Coach for teachers and administrators in several Archdiocese schools in the NWS Bronx area. Although after retirement I ventured out to other career opportunities, my heart remained with DPS. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I can return to and support and service the place that started my desire to give back to the students and community that contributed to who I am today.

In addition to my continued career path, I enjoy interior design/staging homes, shopping, and spending time with my son in California and my mother, daughter, and granddaughter who reside here in Michigan.
