Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Jasmine Lavela
Jasmine Lavela is a native Detroiter and Detroit School of Arts graduate committed to building up the city and school system that helped mold her growing up. She began her educational journey over 20 years ago through mentoring and tutoring young people in the area. It was through that experience that she learned how deeply systemic and socioeconomic issues impacted the lives of our city’s children and the education they receive. Fueled by the need for social justice and academic equity, Ms. Lavela later decided to make this commitment a part of her professional path.
Since then, Ms. Lavela has spent the last 12 years educating students in the Metro Detroit area in Mathematics and English/Language Arts at the K - 8 and collegiate level. Her last four years were spent with Detroit Public Schools Community District at Golightly Education Center. Throughout her career, Ms. Lavela has served students and staff in the roles of middle school teacher, university instructor, Mathematics specialist, reading interventionist, teacher mentor, coach/advisor for various teams, clubs, programs, and committees; testing coordinator, Professional Learning Community (PLC) leader, and more.
Ms. Lavela holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, with concentrations in Mathematics and Language Arts, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University. She also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from Project Management Institute.
New to the A. L. Holmes Academy of Blended Learning family, Ms. Lavela is excited to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families to positively build upon the legacy already in place.
