• Greetings students, parents/guardians and staff,

My name is Jason Solomon Sr. and I am the new principal of Cody high school.  I am very excited to join the Cody Comet community.  I want you to know that I am a Detroit native and that I spent most of my early childhood growing up in this area (on Clayburn St.).  I am also a product of Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD), graduating from Herman elementary, Ann Arbor Trail middle school and Detroit Redford High school.  As a proud graduate of DPSCD, I was motivated to take advantage of post-secondary opportunities to improve myself and achieve my personal goals.  With the love and support of my mentors, friends and family, I went on to attain my Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Kentucky State University and a Master's degree in Education from Marygrove College. While a teacher in the classroom, I later returned to Marygrove to earn my Second Master’s degree in Administration.  As you can tell from this introduction, I am a lifelong learner and believe that education is essential to my growth and development as a person and professional.

To the students, I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your commitment to your personal goals, grades and when you will be graduating.  One of my favorite quotes is from Malcolm X and he stated that, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today!”.  Students, I want you to use every resource that we have at Cody high school and DPSCD to prepare you for a successful future.  I promise to work relentlessly with our district leadership, teachers, support staff and parents/guardians to provide the support you need to not just be good, but be GREAT in all your endeavors!

To the parents, I invite you to partner with the Cody staff and I on a collaborative journey to serve the academic, social, and emotional needs of our children.  We owe it to our students and the future of our community to work collaboratively, to be solution-oriented, to be accountable to each other, in control our narrative by amplifying the good!  Again, I invite you to get involved and commit to doing the work needed to cultivate a safe, orderly, healthy, caring, and positive environment for learning to thrive.  Our children are our most prized possession and the world’s most valuable resource.  Therefore, let’s work together to give them our very best.

To the staff, I want to thank you for your commitment to educating the children in the Cody community.  As I move into this role as Principal, I eagerly look forward to engaging in rich dialogue about how we can work together to make Cody the premier destination for our families in the Detroit community.  This is an exciting time for us to work as partners in education ready to serve the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of our amazing children as they transition into adulthood go on to impact the world.

    Onward and Upward

    Jason Solomon Sr.
