Dear Marquette Parents/Guardians:
We are quickly approaching the end of summer and it will soon be time to return to school. I hope that you had an opportunity to spend some quality time with your family and are ready for a productive school year. The first day of school for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade is August 28, 2023. Preschoolers who have been accepted into Marquette will start September 5, 2023. School hours are 7:30 a.m. – 2:40 p.m. We want to provide an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning and provides the best use of instructional time. With that in mind, we are asking that you will please observe the following policies and procedures for the 2023-2024 school year:
- Send your child to school every day, on time.
- Make sure that your child is in uniform every day. Provide sweaters for cool days that are the color of their uniform shirt or blouse. The only other acceptable color for a sweater is black or white. HOODIES ARE NOT ALLOWED.
- Cell phones will have to be turned in at the entrance door and will be given back to students at dismissal. Students may use the office phone to call parents if necessary. Make sure your child knows your phone number and that you keep it up to date in the school records.
- Teachers are not available for conferences when students are entering the building. Conferences with teachers must be scheduled. There is a form in the main office to request a conference with your child’s teacher. Please do not escort your child to their classroom unless your child is in pre-school. Parents will not be permitted to wait outside the classroom door for teachers in the morning or stand outside the classroom door at dismissal.
- Please allow your child to remain in school for the entire school day. Early dismissals disrupt the learning environment and cause your child to miss instruction. Please try to schedule appointments outside of school hours. For early pick-ups, you must call ahead and arrive by 1:30pm.
- When you visit the school, please be sure to check in at the main office (elementary bldg.) or at the security booth (middle School). Please do not go directly to your child’s classroom, office staff will assist you.
- We will not be able to transfer calls to teacher’s classrooms so that you can talk to your child. Please make sure to give your child instructions before they leave home.
I want to thank you for the support and encouragement I received during last school year. With your support, we were able to continue the process of changing the climate and culture and establishing an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. We have more work to do and we expect you to take an active role in helping us to educate your child. That includes, but is not limited to, making sure your child is in school everyday, on time for the entire day. School starts on day 1! Attending parent teacher conferences and helping us to make sure that your child understands the behavior that is expected in school is also an area where your support is needed and appreciated.
Looking toward the 2023-2024 school year, the Marquette leadership team is committed to providing…
- Lasting relationships between parents, families and the school community
- Focused instructional strategies that yield progressive results
- High expectations for all
Please know that the focus will be to ensure that your child receives the best education and is prepared for the next level of their educational journey.
We also wanted to make sure that you received information relative to school uniforms before you start your back-to-school shopping so that you have an opportunity to include the school uniforms in your buying decisions.
The dress code was adopted to provide students with an educational environment that is conducive to the learning process. The policy was created to prevent distractions and health or safety hazards that disrupt classrooms or decorum. Please monitor what your child wears to school to ensure compliance with the school’s dress code expectations.
We are looking forward to an enriching educational experience in the upcoming school year.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
With Children in Mind,
Deborah Sinclair
