Durfee middle school students shine in academic competitions
Durfee Elementary-Middle School students are showcasing their academic talents by competing against other middle school students in two engaging and educational competitions: Equations, a math-based strategy game, and On Words, a literacy-focused challenge.
These competitions are designed to encourage critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while allowing students to excel in a fun and competitive environment.
About the Competitions
- Equations: This math-based game sharpens students' arithmetic, algebraic, and strategic thinking skills. Participants must create equations using a mix of numbers and operations to solve problems and outsmart their opponents.
- On Words: A language arts game that challenges students' vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension abilities through creative word-building and storytelling exercises.
Both games are aligned with academic standards and provide an innovative way for students to apply classroom learning in real-world scenarios.
Durfee's Rising Stars
Durfee's participants have been diligently preparing for these competitions during after-school programs and tutoring sessions, with the support of dedicated teachers and interventionists. Their hard work and commitment are evident as they compete with confidence and enthusiasm.
Principal Theresa Wesley shared her excitement about the students' involvement:
"These competitions give our students a chance to showcase their academic skills and build confidence in their abilities. We're proud of their dedication and excited to see them grow."
The Road Ahead
The competitions are ongoing, and Durfee's students are already making a strong impression. With each round, they gain valuable experience and further develop the skills necessary for academic success.
Stay tuned for updates on their journey and join us in cheering on our Durfee Elementary-Middle School students as they aim for excellence in Equations and On Words!
