Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!

Save the Date for the 2023 Level Up Expo: Calling all middle school families! Join us at the 2023 Level Up Expo on Saturday, March 18th, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Renaissance High School to learn about all our high school options. Activities will include workshops, student showcases, meet and greet with high school staff, on-site enrollment, application support, raffles and more! 

$10,000 College Scholarship Available to DPSCD Graduates: As the recipient of the 2022 Green-Garner Award, Dr. Vitti received a $10,000 college scholarship to present to a student or student(s) in the Detroit Public Schools Community School District!

The scholarship recipient(s) may use the scholarship award towards tuition, fees, food, or other costs directly related to undergraduate study. Dr. Vitti and the Scholarship Committee will review applications and determine if the entire scholarship amount will be awarded to one deserving student or be divided amongst several deserving students.

Rise Up Read More Challenge: The Office of Literacy has partnered with the Detroit Public Library to encourage our students to Rise up and Read More through a challenge. Round one ends Friday, January 20th. For more information, please contact your ELA (English Language Arts) Teacher. If you’re interested in doing your part to help DPSCD students Rise up and read more, volunteer with us through the District’s Let’s Read Initiative. Parent Academy Workshops This Week: Parents, please take advantage of the many free workshops available to you through our Parent Academy. This week’s highlights include a session on how to pick the right college on Tuesday, January 17th, and mindfulness and meditation on Wednesday, January 18. Parents can join this workshop to receive tips and resources as they support their children. Cheerleading Competition: For the first time this year, DPSCD will host league events for PSL Competitive Cheerleading. Cass Tech and Renaissance participated in last year's competition; this year King will join them to compete for the first time as part of the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association). Join us Wednesday January 18th at Renaissance High School from 6 p.m. -7:30 p.m. and Wednesday January 25th at King from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. in support of DPSCD Competitive Cheerleading.
