Art comes to Bunche!
Bunche is excited to welcome some incredible portraits painted by Robert Vanivelt! Using simple supplies from local hardware stores, Vanivelt created these beautiful pieces. While installing these works, Vanivelt explained that a major reason why he used such simple supplies was because he wanted to convey his belief that anything, and more importantly, anyone, can be art.
The subjects of these portraits are inspirational African-Americans throughout history. These are people who have made a large positive impact in their respective fields.
The above portrait is of Prince Rodgers Nelson. An American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Prince was the recipient of many awards and is considered by some as one of the greatest musicians of his generation.
This portrait is of the late Malcom X. Malcom X was an American Muslim minister, who was a prominent figure during the civil rights movement as well as a speaker for the Nation of Islam.
Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama. An American attorney and author who served as the first ever African-American first lady of the United States.
These are just three examples of the many portraits presented around Bunche. Each a portrait of an extraordinary person with an extraordinary story. Please ask your child which of our wonderful portraits were their favorites and ask them what made them stand out!
