Our Academics and Electives 

At Bunche Preparatory Academy, our academic programming reflects the goals of Blueprint 2027, which emphasizes Outstanding Achievement, Whole Child Commitment, and Transformative Culture. Our core academic curriculum, built around Michigan state standards and the priorities of Blueprint 2027, includes:

✍️ English Language Arts (ELA) 
Through our literacy instruction, we focus on improving early reading and writing proficiency to ensure that every student develops the foundational skills necessary for future academic success. Following Blueprint 2027’s commitment to pushing proficiency rates higher, we adopt frameworks that promote independent reading, critical thinking, and the love of language in our students.

🧮 Mathematics
Our math program is designed to build confidence and competence by creating engaging and math-rich classroom environments. In alignment with Blueprint 2027’s focus on excellence in instruction, we prioritize critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning, ensuring students are equipped for success in both academics and life.

🔬 Science  
Aligned with DPSCD’s goals to integrate real-world learning and STEM-related opportunities, our science curriculum connects classroom concepts to real-world phenomena. Through hands-on experimentation and inquiry-based learning, students are exposed to the engineering practices and STEM pathways that prepare them for careers of the future, a key aspect of Blueprint 2027’s vision of graduating future-ready students.

🌍 Social Studies 
In line with Blueprint 2027’s emphasis on anti-racist pedagogy and inclusive practices, our social studies program helps students understand democratic values, global citizenship, and the diverse histories that shape our world. We ensure that students are equipped with the intellectual skills and knowledge necessary to become informed and active participants in our society.

Through these core academic subjects, we support each student’s academic growth while also nurturing their social and emotional development, in line with the Whole Child Commitment of Blueprint 2027.

Electives
Our elective programs at Bunche Preparatory Academy are designed to enhance students' creativity, communication skills, physical health, and critical thinking—all aligned with the Blueprint 2027 commitment to providing a well-rounded education.

🎨 Art  
Our art program develops foundational art skills such as drawing, painting, and sculpting, while also encouraging creativity and self-expression. Aligned with the transformative culture goals of Blueprint 2027, students explore diverse artistic styles and media, learning to recognize key art elements like line, shape, and color in culturally inclusive ways.

🧏🏿 American Sign Language (ASL)
As an immersion school, we are proud to offer ASL instruction to all students, helping them connect with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and fostering a sense of inclusion. In alignment with Blueprint 2027’s goals of creating diverse learning environments, ASL instruction promotes communication and cultural understanding for all students.

💪🏿 Physical Education  
Our physical education program aligns with the whole child commitment by focusing on promoting strength, coordination, and lifelong wellness habits. Through active engagement in physical routines, students develop agility and strength, while also learning health facts and tips for maintaining a balanced diet—helping them build the resilience emphasized in Blueprint 2027.

📐 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)  
Our STEM program is designed to inspire critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity in real-world applications. Through hands-on projects and inquiry-based learning, students explore careers in STEM-related fields, preparing for future academic and professional success. This program is directly aligned with Blueprint 2027’s goals of pushing for higher levels of proficiency in math and science while ensuring our students are future-ready.
