Roll to the Polls

High school students from Southeastern, EEVP, Denby, and DIA made history this fall by actively participating in the district’s "Roll to the Polls" initiative. Through this empowering program, students demonstrated their commitment to shaping their future by heading to early voting locations, often for the very first time. DPSCD, in partnership with its Government and Community Affairs (GCA) team, proudly led the mission to prepare, educate, and mobilize students for civic participation, encouraging a new generation to step forward as Detroit’s engaged citizens.

Empowering Detroit's Youth

The GCA team is committed to empowering high school students as they transition into adulthood. Recognizing the powerful role of youth voices in shaping Detroit’s future, this initiative aimed to provide students aged 16 and older with the resources and motivation to register to vote. With over 700 DPSCD students registered, the program is building a foundation for lifelong civic participation and democracy.

Engaging Students Through Voter Education

Starting in early fall, the GCA team launched a series of voter registration workshops at high schools across the district. These workshops taught students about government fundamentals, the voting process, and issues directly affecting them—such as education funding, mental health resources, and public safety. By using real-world examples, the team sparked interest and facilitated meaningful conversations, motivating many students to embrace their role as first-time voters.
