Unlocking Opportunity: Southeastern's Vision for Your Child's Success

Welcome to Southeastern! A Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Exam School. We are excited to share with you the incredible opportunities that await your child at our school. We recognize that every student has unique talents and aspirations, and we are committed to providing a rigorous and supportive learning environment that will unlock their full potential. As you consider your child's educational journey, we invite you to explore the many benefits of attending Southeastern.

Student, NaSae' Johnson said, "Southeastern is a community-oriented school, regardless of what happens near or around us we continue to be a family. Southeastern is a space for any kind of creativity that comes to mind; most ideas are guaranteed to come to life -- all you would have to do is, speak up."

“The potential of our students is sky high, but to help them to reach the highest of heights, we need to provide additional experiences to give them exposure to careers and colleges,” said Principal El-Amin.  “Many of our students have not left the city and many rarely leave their neighborhoods.  We would love for the community to assist us with broadening our students' horizons so they can see themselves beyond their present situations.  Examples field trips, job shadowing/internships, mentoring and ETC are opportunities that the community and alumni can do for our students.”

He continued, “At Southeastern, we take pride in our distinctive features that make us unique. We are one of two DPSCD Exam Schools with a neighborhood component, ensuring that our students have the best of both worlds. We offer a variety of Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses to prepare them for college, as well as three NAF-supported CTE programs: Coding, Business, and Advanced Manufacturing sponsored by Stellantis.”

Southeastern also has a wealth of clubs and organizations that cater to every interest, from Chess and Robotics to Academic Games and mentoring programs like 5000 Male Mentoring, Curvy Girl Project, and Pretty Brown Girls Mentoring. Our partnerships with organizations like Ernst Young, East-Side Community Network, and the Hantz Foundation provide our students with unique opportunities and access to resources beyond the classroom.

Student, Myshawn Jennings said, "The staff at SE really cares for the students, in assemblies the staff has high expectations for students.  I appreciate all the extra programs the school offers.”

Most importantly, Southeastern has a graduation rate of 90%, with 100% of our seniors being accepted to at least one college or university. Our commitment to excellence in education ensures that our students are well-prepared for the next phase of their lives.

Student April Finley said, "What makes Southeastern special is our dedication to help each student feel cared for, for instance providing clothing if the student is in need. A highlight for me is being able to rely on multiple staff members for support, academically and otherwise."

At Southeastern, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their dreams. We offer a supportive environment that encourages exploration and discovery, while also challenging our students to become leaders in their communities.

Student, Brooklyn Dinkins said, "What makes Southeastern special is the community. All staff and students strive through SE with opportunities, goals, or even scholarships. We continue to strive as a community to set ourselves up for success and growth to college or whatever career path we see fit for ourselves."

We invite families, parents, and community members to join us in fostering a culture of learning and growth for all our students. Let us work together to provide our students with the experiences they need to see themselves beyond their present situations. There are plenty of ways to get involved, from field trips and job shadowing/internships to mentoring and other opportunities. Together, we can help unlock our students' potential and help them reach the highest of heights.
