The Name We Honor

  •

The Cornelius Lacy Golightly Vocational/ Technical Center opened in September 1982. It was named in honor of Cornelius Lacy Golightly, the first Black President of the Detroit Board of Education. It is located on the corner of Jefferson and Dickerson and serves as the “Beacon” and the educational cornerstone for the Jefferson-Chalmers Community. The Center opened the door to further growth and development in the community. The Golightly Center was renamed Golightly Career and Technical Center to reflect an increased emphasis on the progression of K-12 professional training, which includes the integration of academic education.
