Ms. Karla Craig
Principal Craig began her educational career in the Detroit Public Schools District in 1995 as a middle school math teacher at Post Elementary School. Ms. Craig spent eight years teaching within the district before accepting a position as a Mathematics Instructional Specialist. Over the next 9 years, she supported all the district’s middle school mathematics teachers with curriculum and instruction. In 2012, Ms. Craig received a promotion and became the Assistant Principal of Bates Academy where she focused on increasing student achievement and parent and community partnerships until she was promoted to Principal of Sampson Webber Academy. She then moved over to serve as the principal of the wonderful Pasteur Elementary School.
Principal Craig received a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, Mathematics from Alabama A & M University. She has also earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Detroit-Mercy. Her educational experiences have afforded her the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to share the mission of DPSCD of educating and empowering every student, in every community, every day to build a stronger Detroit. Her educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family.
