Pulaski Parents/Guardians, Scholars, and Staff,
Pulaski Parents/Guardians, Scholars, and Staff, I would like to WELCOME you to the 2024-2025 academic school year. I am truly excited about this educational, fun-filled year. This is my fifth year as Principal of Pulaski, prior to serving as the Assistant Principal and Instructional Specialist. I am a "Lifelong Learner", and truly passionate about education.
I have set expectations for all parents/guardians, scholars, and
staff. Please adhere to the following:
• Attendance: Scholars are present and on time daily at 7:30 am; chronic absenteeism (more than 2 absences per month) will result in possible "Parent Responsibility Fines and court appearances." If your child is unable to attend school, please contact your child's teacher. We have reduced Chronic Absenteeism from 79.7% (2021-2022) to 45.3% (2022-2023).
• ALL scholars must be in full uniform daily (Red Polo Shirts, Black Uniform pants or skirt, black or red uniform sweater). If not, parents will receive a call to bring a change of clothes. (NO jogging pants or black/blue jeans with rips, NO crocs, sandals, flip-flops, NO hoodies, NO headscarves, or bandannas).
• Scholars with no cell phones are visible in our school building or on our campus, they must remain in pockets or purses set on silent or powered off. Pulaski is NOT responsible for lost or stolen phones. If scholars are caught using or recording during school hours, they will be subject to discipline from the Student Code of Conduct.
• Staff are expected to arrive at school on time prior to 7:30 am and be prepared to greet scholars promptly at 7:30 am. Excessive Absenteeism will be addressed immediately by Principal Smith-Bell.
• Staff are expected to communicate directly and frequently with parents and guardians regarding academics, behavior, and attendance; a contact log must be maintained. Through Improved Academics and communication, Pulaski has Improved our State School Grade from F (2018) to C (2023). Our goal for 2024-2025 is an "A".
• Parents are encouraged to attend Monthly Parent Workshops.
• Parents are encouraged to attend our Curriculum Nights.
• Parents are encouraged to be ACTIVE participants in their scholar's education.
• Parents are encouraged to volunteer at 7:25 am, lunch 10:00 am-1:00 pm, dismissal 2:25 pm or in your child's classroom.
We must work collaboratively for the betterment of our scholars and the Pulaski Community. When necessary, please contact me at tyra.smith-dean@detroitk12.org or 313 866-7022.
Tyra Smith-Bell, Ed.S.
