Rebeca Luna grew up in the heart of southwest Detroit, dedicating her life to making a positive impact on students' lives and helping to secure an immutable future for the students at King and Western High Schools in Detroit.  Mrs. Luna grew up an aficionado of athletics, playing softball and basketball at Holy Redeemer High School.  Her husband's family bakery, Luna Bakery, stood in the shadows of Holy Redeemer High School and Rebeca Luna and her daughters worked at that bakery for many years, where hard work and dedication are the keys to success and prosperity.  During her pursuit of higher education, Mrs. Luna spent two years at the University of Michigan, completing her BA and MA from Wayne State University.

During her 34 years with Detroit Public Schools, Rebeca Luna was a teacher and administrator.  She began her career as a teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. High School where she taught for eight years. Ms. Luna then transferred to Western International High School where she worked as a teacher, department head, Dean of Students, assistant principal, and principal. Mrs. Luna served as the principal of Western International High School for nine years from 2000-2009.

Rebeca Luna is most proud of the academic growth of her students, curricular advancement at Western International High School, the positive climate and culture she played a key role in influencing, increased enrollment and graduation rates at Western, and the higher-level academic opportunities provided to her students under her tenure as Western's head administrator.

In her nine years as Western's principal, Rebeca Luna influenced a paradigm shift in equity and accessibility to a world-class education.  Her tenure as principal at Western led to student awarded scholarships and grants totaling more than ninety-nine million dollars, a whopping 87% more than today's average total awarded scholarships per high school in America.

Rebeca Luna's heart will always be with the Western International High School community. She is so appreciative of the opportunity to work with a dynamic team that is always focused on student growth.  Mrs. Luna is exceptionally proud of the students she had the opportunity to impact during her time at Western.

Rebeca Luna graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in the Heart of Southwest Detroit in 1981.
