  • WELCOME BACK!!!

Hello Pharaoh Families and Welcome to an extraordinary school year. Thank you for choosing Communication & Media Arts High School to educate and nurture your child. This school year, we are focused on Elevating: Academic proficiency, Culture, Communication, Community; and Exceeding Expectations. We are confident that this will be a year of excellence, and we are ready to ACE it! Thank you again for entrusting us with your child’s education.

Families, we encourage you to stay connected and get involved with your child’s high school journey. Together, we will help all CMA students elevate to greater heights of success. Here is news you can use:

    · Mr. Damarco James Jr., Assistant Principal

    · Mr. Kason Dickerson, School Counselor

    · Mrs. Parminder Kaur, Science Teacher

    · Ms. Lauren Krill, Social Studies Teacher

    · Mrs. Maratova-Bologna, Art Teacher

    Morning Entry

CMA’s doors open daily by 7:30 a.m. Parents, please encourage your son/daughter to prepare the night before and to manage their time in the morning to ensure an on-time start to their school day. As a reminder teaching and learning begins at 8:00 a.m. and students arriving after this time will be marked “tardy.” CMA’s goal for daily attendance is 95%.

    Student I.D. cards

Students will receive or take their student identification picture the week of September 2 during their lunch hour. All students are required to have and wear their 2025-2026 student I.D. during the entire school day (including after-school programs). Parents, please remind your son/daughter to wear their I.D. to school daily.

    PowerSchool Parent Access Code

Parents, stay connected with your student’s attendance, coursework, and academic performance via PowerSchool Parent Portal. PowerSchool Parent Access Codes can be obtained by emailing april.mccain01@detroitk12.org.

    Dress Code Policy Amendment

Students are required to wear CMA school colors, which are black, dark purple, and/or white. Please note cheer/short, pleated skirts, tennis skirts, micro, miniskirts, minidresses, or bodycon dresses/skirts are not permitted. Please reference the Summer Orientation policies or CMA’s website at https://www.detroitk12.org/cma for a complete description of the dress code policy.

    Student Code of Conduct

Please take a moment to speak with your student about the importance of school safety and appropriate behavior. Unfortunately, we have already experienced several code of conduct concerns this school year. Incidents involving vaping and physical altercations violate our student code of conduct and carry serious consequences. These behaviors not only affect individual students, jeopardize your child’s enrollment at CMA, but also impact our ability to maintain a positive and safe school climate for everyone.

    We Hear You!

CMA students can now enjoy Relaxed Dress Days! Our first Relaxed Dress Day is Monday, September 8, 2025. Ditch the dress code and show off your style, just make sure to follow the dress code guidelines. Please contact CMA at 313- 866-9300 if you have any questions or concerns.
