Academic Support Services

  • The goal of Parent Academy is to provide parents the tools and skills to build capacity and confidence to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. All classes are free and offered in convenient locations to meet parents where they are. Parent Academy focuses on three key pillars: Student Achievement, Personal and Professional Development, and Parenting/Advocacy.

Eureka Math for Families series was developed to assist parents who now have an enhanced role to support their children’s education. Since Eureka Math is relatively new and different than many of our parents were taught, the Office of Mathematics wants to increase parents’ conceptual understanding of grade-level mathematics so they can better support their children’s learning of key mathematical content. Parents will be invited to participate in 9, 30-minute virtual sessions led by Master Teacher Facilitators throughout the year. The goal is for parents to work with Master Teachers to learn key strategies and models in Eureka Math and how they can help their child at home. Parents will also have an opportunity to check in with the Master Teacher Trainers, ask questions, and share success during the 9 virtual Office Hours that follow each session.

Homework Hotline will begin on Monday, September 14th for the 2020-2021 school year. We can't wait to begin helping students!

The Detroit Public Schools Community District Homework Hotline is a free resource available for all DPSCD students that encourages outstanding achievement by giving students an additional platform to ask for help and emphasize problem solving skills. Students and families can call in for help with Literacy and/or Math homework. The Homework Hotline is provided in partnership with United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

The Homework Hotline will be offered during the academic year on Monday – Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Homework Hotline will not operate on days that schools are closed for holidays. Please view our 2020-2021 Academic Calendar for dates.

The Mental Health Support line is also available through the Homework Hotline to provide online counseling to students and parents and referrals for additional services. Please check the Mental Health Support line page for information regarding their hours.
