Smart Safety Measures
We are committed to keeping our students and staff safe through robust safety measures in our school buildings:
- Social Distancing: In-person classes will be capped at no more than 20 students per individual room. Larger spaces – auditoriums, gyms – will be used for additional distancing needs.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Students and Staff: Masks will be required, and reusable masks provided to all students and staff. Additional PPE will be available based on specific needs (e.g. face shields for teachers, KN95 masks for nurses).
- Good Hygiene: Bathrooms will be restocked regularly with soap and hand sanitizer located throughout buildings. Students and staff will undergo training on healthy hygiene practices.
- Careful Monitoring: All schools and offices have a clear process for entry, aligned with CDC guidance, including symptoms and temperature checks for students and staff.
- Daily Cleaning and Disinfecting: Classrooms, offices, and shared spaces will have a posted cleaning log completed daily to verify cleaning (high-touch hard surfaces disinfected). All buildings will be cleaned and disinfected prior to staff and students returning.
Practicing Safety First #WeHaveAPlan
In the case of a confirmed COVID case or a second wave of cases throughout the Detroit community, families can expect:- Proactive communication about confirmed cases once information is confirmed with public health officials
- Buildings and offices will be closed for disinfecting before students and staff return
- Students will continue to engage in instruction online with regular assignments, attendance, and grades
We are prepared to transition fully to online learning if needed in case of a “second wave” and widespread required closures.
