Meet Our AWESOME Attendance Agent
Harms Elementary Agent Supports Students and Parents
DPSCD Attendance Agent Profile: Lenora Butler
As an attendance agent at Harms Elementary School, Lenora Butler acts as a liaison for students and helps them to get the resources they need.
Recently, we caught up with Lenora to learn more about her role and what she does.
Can you describe your background/role?
I am an Attendance Agent, and our role is to ensure that students attend school every day. I am also the McKinney-Vento homeless (part of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act) liaison.
What does your day to day look like?
My day consists of me meeting any tardy students in the morning. I also reach out to the parents of absent students to determine if they have any barriers that are preventing the students from coming to school. If so, I try to address those barriers with the parents in hopes that it will get the children back in school, and ready to learn. I also review our school's data to determine which students need specialized attention, and which classes are doing well. I also assist around the school as needed.
What is the impact your school has on the community?
The impact that our school has on the community is that we are willing and able to assist all parents when needed. We strive to provide a holistic approach to learning. We attempt to address all barriers that a family is experiencing. This approach will hopefully allow both the students and their family to feel welcome, which in turn will allow the student to learn and be successful.
