March is Reading Month

Summary of the Reading Month Activities 

Theme: PEACE, LOVE, BOOKS

March is both Reading Month and Women’s History Month, and various activities are planned to engage students in reading and literacy.

Key Activities:

  • Kickoff Week (March 7th):

    • Morning reading of a Dr. Seuss classic.
    • Door decoration contest for Reading Month/Women’s History Month.
    • Fun activities via the Climate & Culture Team (Fridays).
  • March 10th–21st & 31st:

    • M.I.R.M. Oath: Students can recite, write, and decorate the oath for prizes.
    • Words of the Week (W.O.T.W.): Activities vary by grade level (drawing, sentences, posters, and stories).
    • Book Cover Contest: Students design a book cover based on the theme or a historical woman (March 7–14).
    • Women in History Reading Day:
      • Grades 3-8 read articles about women in history.
      • Grades K-2 watch women’s history audio books.
    • Poetry Reading Day: Students read poetry in class.
    • Book vs. Movie Day: A movie with popcorn for students meeting PBIS behavior, attendance, and academic standards.

Special Dress-Up Days:

  • Hat Day: March 12
  • Word T-Shirt Day: March 13
  • Socks & Crocs Friday: March 14

Other Notable Events:

  • Story Time (March 17–21): Student readers visit PreK-2nd grade classrooms.
