The Maker's Market Returns
The second annual Maker's Market was a huge success! Edmonson learners in Upper Elementary, grades 4-6, showcased their creative and business side. To prepare for the big day, the small business owners had to brainstorm ideas on what to make to sell. They had to determine what materials they needed, what the cost would be of each item, how much inventory to make in total, and explore their marketing side by designing signs and creating sales pitches.
There were a variety of hand-made goods made by learners in Mrs. Witherspoon, Mrs. Williams and Ms. Scarborough class. As their peers strolled the main hall upstairs, shopping and debating which items to buy, the Friends of Edmonson PTA President Ms. Monique, Mrs. Witherspoon and Secondary learners, Keyon and Yousif, volunteered as cashiers at each end of the hall. There were a variety of items made. There were beaded friendship bracelets, tie-dyed tote bags, bookmarks, hand drawn coloring books and pages, jewelry, knitted pot holders, original art drawings and so much more.
Proceeds from the Maker's Market will go towards helping homeless youth in Detroit with the Detroit Phoenix Center. Each year a different cause to support is decided by the learners. Last year, proceeds went to help the student activities at Edmonson.
