The Skillman Foundation and The Parade Company Detroit host a float design contest each holiday season leading up to Thanksgiving. Students in grades 4-8, within the Detroit public or charter schools, are encouraged to illustrate this year’s contest theme of “Better Together” in a creative and meaningful way.

“Working with a wonderful partner such as The Skillman Foundation and these talented students to create a unique float is so special,” said Tony Michaels, President and CEO of the Parade Company. “Young people truly are our future and seeing their creativity on display on Woodward on Thanksgiving morning is a wonderful experience.” Many students at Edmonson entered the contest. While no one was selected as the top winner, we did have a student be recognized as a Honorable Mention. Alex H., a fourth year student, created a colorful master piece. Congraduate Alex when you see him in class or in the hallway.
