Edison Elementary Hosts Engaging Literacy Night
Last night, Edison Elementary School was transformed into a hub of literary excitement for its annual Literacy Night. The event, designed to foster a love of reading among students and their families, drew an enthusiastic crowd eager to participate in various reading-themed activities.
The evening began with a warm welcome from Principal Kristina Christian, who emphasized the importance of literacy in early education. "Events like this help ignite a lifelong passion for reading in our Edison scholars," she remarked. "We're thrilled to see such strong family involvement tonight."
Families navigated through a series of stations, each offering unique and interactive experiences. One popular stop was the "Wayne County RESA Literacy Classroom Center Stations," where Edison scholars got an opportunity to create storybooks, practice letter writing, rhyming, word recognition and so much more. Edison Scholars also got to meet a young local author George Latham IV who captivated young listeners with animated readings from his latest children's book. It was amazing to see a young author motivate students into the possibilities of creating, writing, and illustrating.
A highlight of the night was the Family Raffle, where prizes included book sets, beautiful Easter lilies, and a grand prize of a Detroit-made box of goodies. The excitement was visible as families gathered in anticipation of the drawing.
Parent turnout was impressive, with many expressing appreciation for the school's efforts to promote reading. "It's wonderful to see the kids so excited about books," said one parent. "Events like this make reading fun and bring our families closer together."
As the evening ended, it was clear that Edison Elementary's Literacy Night was a resounding success. The event not only celebrated the joy of reading but also reinforced the strong bond between the school, Edison scholars, its families, and the community, promising a bright literary future for all.
