Edison Tigers News Team
The Edison Tiger News Team was founded by Assistant Principal Kenneth Hall and Fourth Grade ELA Teacher Mrs. Natelege Sims and is comprised of 10 fourth grade students. These students conduct interviews, collect weekly data for weather reports, poll students throughout the school on their various interests, and research current events for special interest stories. Students are responsible for transforming their classroom into a news studio each week in preparation for weekly production. The broadcasts are edited by Mr. Kenneth Hall and uploaded to the News Team's YouTube channel each week.
The news team provides students with the opportunity to strengthen skills in writing, public speaking, interpersonal communication, and leadership! These fourth graders have emerged as leaders within the Edison Community and their commitment to this endeavor shows their dedication and perseverance in this demanding field of study! As an extension of their learning, students were invited to tour the Fox 2 Detroit News Studios on April 11, 2019, where they met with news anchors, writers, editors, and producers who showed them first-hand how a broadcast is created and executed.
