Books and Basketball: A Winning Combination at Edison Elementary

Cleary University Men’s Basketball Team Inspires Edison Elementary Students Through Reading

Edison Elementary was thrilled to welcome the Cleary University Men’s Basketball Team, a group of dedicated student-athletes from Cleary University in Michigan, for a special reading event with our students. The visit was a memorable experience, as players took turns reading selected books and sharing the importance of literacy with eager young listeners.

As they read aloud, the players captivated students with their enthusiasm and storytelling, making the books come alive. Beyond the stories, they also shared motivating words, encouraging students to work hard, stay focused, and never give up—whether in school, sports, or life. They emphasized that just like in basketball, reading takes practice and dedication and that strong literacy skills are key to future success.

The event left a positive impact, as students saw firsthand that even college athletes prioritize education and the joy of reading. The players’ presence and encouragement reinforced the message that books open doors to knowledge, imagination, and endless possibilities.

Edison Elementary is grateful to the Cleary University Men’s Basketball Team for their time, inspiration, and dedication to promoting literacy. Their visit not only excited students about reading but also showed them that learning and perseverance are the keys to achieving their dreams!
