DPS/DPSCD Alumni Come Home Weekend May 18-May 20: The Second Annual Come Home Alumni Hall of Fame Gala weekend is quickly approaching. Ronald Brown Academy Students at Ronald Brown Academy received a visit from the Detroit Lions in recognition of the school’s work to help students adopt healthy habits through their participation in the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) program. The assembly was a partnership between Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit Lions through the National Football League’s Play 60 program. Today, more than 1 in 5 American kids have obesity. In Michigan, 15.7% of kids between the ages of 10 and 17 have obesity, which ranks 23rd in the U.S. Together, Blue Cross and the Detroit Lions are tackling these statistics and helping to make Michigan healthier by encouraging kids to be active for 60 minutes every day. Parent Academy free workshops this week: Families and students are encouraged to attend the Parent Academy free workshops this week; highlights include helping with job and career readiness in the Workforce Development Workshop and learning the effects of bullying and how to prevent it in the Anti Bullying Workshop. ESE Gateway Townhall Please join the Office of Exceptional Student Education as they host a Family Townhall on Gifted and Talented Education with the theme, “Gifted and Talented in Detroit—Creating Equitable Opportunities for Detroit’s High-Potential Children.” This townhall will take place on Saturday, May 6, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Cass Technical High School.
