Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!

Renaissance Chess Team Wins National Championship: Congratulations to the members of the Renaissance High School Chess Team for winning the 2023 National Chess Championship that was held in Washington, D.C. last weekend. The Renaissance team finished first among the 67 teams in the chess competition that included more than 400 students! A fist bump to Renaissance chess team coaches Robert Taliaferro and Kevin Smith as well as special recognition to team members Jeremiah Young-Walker, Shane Crumsey, Stevae Crumsey and Justin Smith, who helped clinch the National Championship. We are #DPSCDProud! 

The Enrollment Deadline for Students Who Applied and Were Accepted in Round 1 to a DPSCD Exam High School is Thursday, April 6, 2023: If you applied and were accepted in Round 1 to one of the District's six Examination High Schools: Cass Technical High School, Communication and Media Arts High School, Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School, Renaissance High School, Southeastern High School and The School at Marygrove High School, the deadline to enroll for fall 2023-24 is this Thursday, April 6, 2023. Please note, you must go to the school by the close of the school day on Thursday, April 6, 2023, to complete your enrollment. Click here for more information. 

Parent Academy Workshops This Week: This week’s Parent Academy highlights include a session on teaching parents how to help your student who struggles with reading and writing. The Reading and Writing Made Accessible workshop is on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 12:30 p.m.- 1:30 p.m.  Also, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., families will learn how to navigate the PowerSchool Public Portal to view your student’s key data such as grades and attendance. The Expect Respect Character Trait for April is Compassion: Families, you too can help model this month’s Expect Respect character trait of Compassion at home with your student.
