Celebrating Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo, the annual celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, was marked with great enthusiasm at our school as students embraced the spirit of the occasion through various activities and performances. From donning colorful cultural attire to showcasing traditional dances, the day was filled with excitement and cultural appreciation. Cinco de Mayo recognizes Mexico's 1862 victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla. It has grown to be an opportunity for all to celebrate Mexican culture.

One of the highlights of the celebration was students dressed in traditional Mexican clothing or wearing the colors of the Mexican flag with pride. As part of the festivities, 6th grader Samantha Lopez-Vazquez put on a dance performance of 'La Bruja', with the assistance of Isamara Vasquez. Several students also participated in the annual Cinco de Mayo parade on Sunday that traveled down Vernor Ave.  Clippert Academy is fortunate to have a large population of students whose families come from Mexico and this was a wonderful opportunity for us all to share in this celebration.
