6th Graders Visit Starbase

Over a five week period this fall, a group of sixth graders visited the Selfridge Air National Guard Base to participate in the Starbase Program. Throughout this program students participate in science experiments, are exposed to computer aided design (CAD) and 3D printing software, and learn about the science of flight and space technology. On October 1st students particpated in a tour of the airforce base. They got to meet Buckle the service dog, who does agricultural work with his handler. One thing Buckle is trained to do is find food that is being improperly carried in luggage that may contain harmful insects or invasive species. His work keeps these destructive pests from being transported to a new destination.
