Summer in the "D"PSCD Things You Need to Know
Virtual Orientation for Returning Adult Education Students: The Adult Education Program will host two virtual orientation sessions for returning students this coming Tuesday August 15, 2023, and Thursday August 17, 2023. The session will be from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Upon registration completion, a link will be provided to the virtual session. Contact your career coach if you have any questions. Read more about the adult education program and shared experiences from recent students. DPSCD Families with Exceptionally Gifted Students: Please join the Office of Exceptional Student Education, Wednesday August 16th at 5:30 p.m. for the Gifted and Talented Education Parent Engagement session. This session is for families of Gifted identified students at Bates, FLICS, Golightly and Munger. We will share valuable information regarding Gifted instruction and programming for the 2023-24 school year. You can access the meeting by clicking directly on the "click here" button on the flyer. There’s Still Time to Enroll Your Child for the 2023-24 School Year! DPSCD is still welcoming NEW and returning families to enroll for the upcoming 2023-24. DPSCD offers more than 100 schools to choose from and a variety of programs to nurture your child’s interest and talent. Enroll your child today! Family Health and Wellness! As a reminder, any new students to the district as well as students entering kindergarten or 7th grade are required to be current on their childhood vaccines (e.g., diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, meningococcal conjugate, and chicken pox). Parents who wish to seek a waiver for the required immunizations must make an appointment with the Detroit Health Department at (313) 876-4667 prior to enrollment.
ESE Townhall Save the Date: Students and families join the Office of Exceptional Student Education for Back-to-School Parent Engagement Sessions. Held at Jerry L. White 14804 West McNichols Rd. Detroit MI 48235 on Tuesday August 22, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. The engagement session will empower families of gifted and talented children throughout our district and supply families with information that will help them support and advocate for their children and their unique needs. DSA Pathways: The 2023-24 school year is here, the Office of Fine and Performing Arts reminds DPSCD students, and their families of the accelerated fine arts pathways program offered at Detroit School of Arts (DSA). Students who attend John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy, Brenda Scott Academy of Theatre Arts, Spain Elementary- Middle and Edward “Duke” Ellington Conservatory of Arts and Music at Beckham Academy, experience one-of-a-kind educational resources that focus on advanced study in the form of art.
