We made it! The end of the school year draws to a close this week. Good luck as you go off this summer to enjoy the many activities you have planned; remember we are still here and have a full summer of activities prepared to keep students engaged and educated and to support families. We will still produce Five Things and keep you updated with weekly highlights.  

Important Dates to Remember and Bookmark: 

  • First Day of Summer Learning Experiences and Kindergarten Bootcamp – Monday July 11, 2022 – Look out for important notices regarding the first day, transportation and other important details. 
  • Summer on the Block Events – Every Thursday starting July 7, 2022 – Aug. 4, 2022
  • Back to School Expo – Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022 – All schools open house
  • First Day of School – Monday, Aug. 29, 2022 

Parent Academy Courses Week of June 27th – On tap we have a course on educational goal planning and mental health support. Please join us on Tuesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. to learn more about effective strategies to find the perfect fit for your child’s educational goals. It’s never too late to start thinking about college. On Wednesday, June 29, at 5:30 p.m., join us for an important advocacy session as our instructors develop the theme, Eliminating the Stigma of Mental Health Support. DPSCD Families, Legislators in Lansing are Currently Writing the Next K-12 Education Budget. This decides the funding and resources that the District receives to support students. It affects everything from mental health resources to facilities funding to early childhood education. The District needs investments in mental health services, school infrastructure, an increased per-pupil allocation to $9,135, teacher recruitment/retention bonuses, special education funding, and much more. 

We need to make sure your voice is heard! ACT NOW and take a minute to contact your legislator today!

Volunteer News We know when everyone does their part, students rise. DPSCD volunteers play a significant role in supporting our students and families. Note: as of July 1, 2022, ALL volunteers will need to submit a new application for the 22-23 School Year. Please make that a priority and share this with your friends and family. Come one, come all to do your part to help students rise.
