Thirkell Elementary Wears Red in Support of Public Education
On Monday, students, teachers, and staff at Thirkell Elementary School proudly wore red to show their support for public education as part of the nationwide "Red for Ed" movement. This initiative, embraced by educators across the country, advocates for increased funding, resources, and support for public schools.
By wearing red, Thirkell Elementary joined thousands of schools in raising awareness about the challenges faced by public education, including budget cuts, overcrowded classrooms, and the need for more equitable funding. The event was also part of the American Federation of Teachers' (AFT) "Protect Our Kids" campaign, which opposes proposed federal cuts to education programs that support low-income students and those with disabilities.
Principal Coleman Jones emphasized the importance of standing up for public education:
"Our students deserve fully funded schools with the resources they need to succeed. Wearing red is a simple but powerful way to show that we care about their future."
Thirkell Elementary has long been committed to fostering a high-quality learning environment for all students. Through initiatives like "Red for Ed," the school community continues to advocate for policies that will ensure every child receives the education they deserve.
