Up Close with Detroit History

A group of excited third-graders walked into the Detroit Historical Museum, their eyes wide with curiosity. They started their visit at the automobile exhibit, where they saw old cars that helped make Detroit the "Motor City." The students were able to see old models of the Model T from the 1900s. Next, they explored the business exhibit, learning how Detroit became a center for manufacturing and trade. They were especially fascinated by the old cash registers and factory machines that once helped businesses grow. Finally, they visited the sports section, where they saw jerseys and trophies from Detroit's famous teams, like the Tigers and the Pistons, and Lions. The students were especially happy to dress up in Lions gear. They also got to visit the history of "Motown" and learn about famous singers who had amazing inspiring careers in Detroit.  By the end of the trip, the students were buzzing with new facts and couldn’t wait to tell their families all about Detroit’s incredible history.
